Workbook Review Lessons 36-42

Lesson 36: My holiness envelops everything I see.

You are holy because your mind is part of God’s. And because you are holy, your sight must be holy as well. Your sight is related to His holiness, not to your ego, and therefore not to your body, nor to the body’s eyes. The holiness of your mind must lead to holy sight. “Holy” means “sinless.” And if you are holy, then you must also be “sinless” or without sin. There are no degrees of sinlessness; you are sinless or you are not. If you are part of God, you must be sinless, or part of God would be sinful. Since God is not sinful AT ALL, then neither are you!

How you see yourself affects how you see the world. Your holiness envelops the world you see when you see yourself as holy. If you choose to see yourself as sinful, then the idea of sinfulness will envelop the world you see. As you see the world, so you see yourself AND as you see yourself, so you see the world. The ego mind will insist it must be one way OR the other because it operates on a basis of separateness. The Holy Spirit presents it both ways at once, because He sees only UNITY.

There is no separation between the way you see yourself and the way you see the world because they are the same. The world you see is a reflection of your mind, your thoughts, your actions, and your beliefs about yourself. The world is your mirror. If you do not like the reflection you see of yourself in that mirror, change your mind about yourself and see yourself reflected differently.

Holiness is truly not a choice you make. If it appears to be, it is the only choice. Seeing yourself as unholy or sinful may be the alternate “choice,” but sinfulness is not real, therefore it cannot be a valid choice. Choosing between what is real (holiness) and what is unreal (sinfulness), is really not a choice at all. Holiness will abide in you whether or not you choose it over sin, for of the two, only holiness is real. You are created holy. Whether or not you choose to see yourself as a part of God, and thus only holy and seeing only a holy world, is a choice. Therefore, if you want to see the world differently, see yourself differently. See yourself as holy. It cannot be more simple than that!!

Lesson 37: My holiness blesses the world.

Obviously sin does not bless the world. The world is blessed by truth and sin is not truth. God did not create sin and it is not real. Only holiness blesses the world; only what God created can bless.

The idea of this lesson contains the first glimmerings of your true function in the world, or why you are here. Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness, thus are you and the world blessed together. No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. Holiness offers everyone full due. Seeing each other as holy, and therefore entitled to everything because it is your equal birthright as a Son of God, is the only way to see a brother truly and to see the reflection of that truth in yourself. Those who see themselves as whole (holy) bless each other by making no demands of each other and asking nothing.

There is no other way in which the idea of sacrifice can be removed form the world’s thinking. Any other way of seeing will inevitably demand payment of someone or something. As a result, the perceiver will lose. Nor will he have any idea why he is losing. It is essential to use the idea if anyone seems to cause an adverse reaction in you. Offer him the blessing of your holiness immediately – that you may learn to keep it in your own awareness. You help your brother by seeing him truly and restoring his awareness of his holiness through your vision. So make no demands. We are here to be truly helpful to each other in awakening to the truth of our holiness; that is all.

Lesson 38: There is nothing my holiness cannot do.

The purpose of this lesson is to instill in you a sense that you have dominion over all things because of what you are, and of Who your Father is. Your holiness reverses all the laws of the world. It is beyond every restriction of time, space, distance and limits of any kind. Your holiness is totally unlimited in its power because it establishes you as a Son of God, at one with the Mind of his Creator. Therefore, your holiness is the salvation of the world.

“There is nothing my holiness cannot do because the power of God lies in it.” (W-38)

Through your holiness the power of God is made manifest and the power of God is made available, and there is nothing the power of God cannot do through you! Your holiness, then, can remove all pain and loneliness, can end all sorrow and worry, and can solve all problems – in connection with yourself and with anyone else. When you actually understand this, you can change the world.

“There is nothing in the world that has the power to make you ill or sad, or weak or frail.

But it is you who have the power to dominate all things you see by merely recognizing

what you are.”

(W-190.5:5-6)

If you are holy, so is everything God created. You are holy because all things He created are holy. You are created in the Image of God. He is holy, therefore so are you. Understanding that you are holy is humility, not arrogance. It is arrogant to think you are not holy, to think you are other than God created you to be! If you do not learn this lesson now, then when, O Holy Son of God, WHEN?

Lesson 39: My holiness is my salvation.

How can your holiness be the salvation of the world (as it says in paragraph one of lesson 38 above), unless it is also your own salvation? A savior must be saved. How else can he teach salvation? Obviously the sinless do not know guilt. The sinless have nothing to feel guilty for. Recognizing you are holy and therefore sinless, you will also recognize that you are saved, and therefore can save.

To make way for understanding of this lesson, you are asked to search for your unloving thoughts in whatever form they appear – guilt, uneasiness, helplessness, misery, suffering, depression, anger, fear, worry, attack, insecurity, confusion, fear of loss and so on. Whatever form they take, they are unloving and therefore fearful. It is your unloving thoughts that are keeping yourself and your brothers in hell. It is from them that you need to be saved. For each brother, fill in his name and say this:

“My unloving thoughts about _________ are keeping me in hell.

My holiness is my salvation from this.” (W-39)

And it is your blessing on him that will save you and give you vision. Your holiness is your salvation. You are also asked to just relax at intervals during the practice of this lesson, and do not seem to be thinking of anything, because sustained concentration appears to be very difficult at first. It will become much easier as your mind becomes more disciplined and less distractable.

If guilt is hell, what is its opposite? The usual answers are “innocence” and “heaven” and perhaps even “salvation.” Yet your holiness is the answer to every question that was ever asked, is being asked now, or will be asked in the future. Your holiness means the end of guilt, and therefore the end of hell. God does not know of guilt, nor does He know of sin or unholiness. Yet He does know of holiness and Love. He does know His Son. He knows YOU.

Lesson 40: I am blessed as a Son of God.

The purpose of today’s lesson is to put you in touch with the happy things that you are entitled to as God’s Son, being what you are. The ego obviously resists this idea. However, it does not want you to be totally miserable, because you might look elsewhere for your happiness and find it without the ego. It is satisfied if you experience pleasure (which is temporary – in contrast to the Joy of God which is constant), but with a vein of sadness and impermanence running through even your best times. The ego urges you to believe that temporary fleeting pleasure is all that is available to you. Happiness is dangerous to the ego, as is love, because happiness says that separation is not true and therefore neither is the ego – and they are not!

The Holy Spirit, however, sees you as the exalted, blessed Son of God, entitled to all happiness – peaceful, loving, contented, calm, quiet, assured and confident – and you are!

Lesson 41: God goes with me wherever I go.

The purpose of this lesson is to get in touch with God’s Presence deep within you, so that you experience the fact that He goes with you wherever you go. The idea for the day will eventually overcome completely the sense of loneliness and abandonment all the separated ones experience. You can never be deprived of your perfect holiness, can never suffer, and can never be alone – because the Source of all joy and life goes with you wherever you go. This idea is the real cure for all human ills, which are merely symptoms of your illusory separation from God.

This “cure” heals, not by overcoming the “ill” (whatever form it may take), but by healing (correcting) your belief in the reality of the illness, a "fact" which you neglected to question. You blithely go your way, seeing doctors or therapists or consultants, taking medicine, or resigning yourselves to the “ills” of the world, seldom if ever questioning whether or not they are even REAL, or if they even EXIST. They are not real, and they do not exist, because God did not create them; you made them up. And just as easily, you can unmake them, by giving them no credence and by asking the Holy Spirit to show you what is real and what is illusion. You will to reach God, and to be surrounded by His complete protection. This is easy, because it is the most natural thing in the world; actually, it is the only natural thing in the world.

God is REAL. God is always with you. How could you in any way be separate from the Infinite? How could you be apart from All That Is? How could you ever be separate from the truth, without appearing as an illusion or a lie yourself? The very idea of separation from God is insane and impossible. And how reassuring to have your Teacher, the Holy Spirit, understand that you are not fully aware, as yet, that you are one with God, and that He goes with you wherever you go? When you begin to become aware of the Presence of God with you always, you may be tempted to think it is your imagination, when actually it is the feeling that His Presence is absent that is imaginary!

Lesson 42: God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

You cannot fail in your efforts to achieve the goal of the course. You will see because it is the Will of God. It is His Promise because it is His strength, not your own, that gives you the power to see. Your passage through time and space is not random. The Holy Spirit is guiding your journey. You cannot but be at the right place at the right time. You may make mistakes, but none that cannot or will not be corrected. Therefore you can walk through this “dream” without anxiety, but with assurance. You are studying a unified thought system in which nothing is lacking that is needed, and nothing is included that is contradictory or irrelevant. Such is the Plan of Atonement. Such is the strength of God. Such are His gifts; such is His vision. Vision is His gift. And God gives truly.
