Workbook Review Lessons 344-350

Lesson 344:  Today I learn the law of love; that what I give my brother is my gift to me.

The law of love is God’s law.  It is not a law of the world.  The world says your store decreases as you give.  The law of love teaches us that when love is shared, it increases the store of the giver as well as the store of the receiver.  The Course teaches that everything begins with an idea.  Ideas, when given away (shared), will increase to the degree that they are accepted and shared by your brother, and will increase even further as they are accepted by the Sonship.  Have you found that sharing with a brother is more rewarding than keeping your ideas to yourself?  Ideas kept to yourself will only increase in your own mind.

“And as I looked upon the treasure that I thought I had,

I found an empty place where nothing ever was or is or will be.” (1:3)

My forgiven brothers will fill my treasure chest (my mind and my heart) with Heaven’s treasures, which alone are real.  Only what is shared is real because only oneness is reality; separateness is illusory.  Note: Love is the idea behind all ideas worthy of God.

Lesson 345:  I offer only miracles today, for I would have them be returned to me.

You are the conduit of miracles.  Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the Ones Who know the miracle readiness of your brothers, and They are the Ones who give the miracle, the corrections of false perception in the mind.  The mind of the miracle worker – you – is corrected first, and the correction is passed to your brother through you.  Thus, as the miracle is given and received by your brother, it is simultaneously given and received by you – and by all open minds in the Sonship, as the law of love is universal.

“The miracles I give are given back in just the form I need to help me with the problems I perceive.” (1:4)

So as you help a brother with a problem he perceives, you will be helped with whatever needs YOU perceive.  The law of love works!  Give miracles born of true forgiveness and love. The miracle is closer to the gifts of God on this earth than any other gift you can give.  The miracle lights the way that you must travel to remember God.  So offer only what you want:  Miracles!  See past the illusions and see your brothers as they really are, as God’s creations. See your brother (and thus yourself) as an unlimited being of spirit, magnificent in glory!

Lesson 346:  Today the peace of God envelops me, and I forget all things except His Love.

Miracles correct our perception of all things and cause time to step aside.  Things that might otherwise have taken years to accomplish, can be accomplished in a day, in an instant, because miracles transcend the “laws” of time.  So do not seek the things of time; do not look upon them.  See only His Love.  Know only the law of love.  This is how you will find peace, even in this world!

All the strain and struggle in this world come from trying to do things on your own, without God, without the help of the Holy Spirit.  It comes from focusing on the problem (the world) and not on the answer (Holy Spirit). When you focus on the problem, you are sending energy to it and thus expanding it.  Focus only on the answer, to minimize and erase the problem. Tiredness comes from resisting His Love; His love is inspiring, not tiring.  So forget all things except His Love.  Look to Him only, and watch the tiredness, aches and pains, indecision, the tension and all worry drift away into nothingness. Let the peace of God surround you instead, and forget all things you made as you behold His glory and your own.

Prayer:

Father, when the evening comes today, I will remember nothing but the peace of God.  For I will learn today what peace is mine and to share, when I forget all things except Your Love.  Amen.

Lesson 347:  Anger must come from judgment.  Judgment is the weapon I would use against myself, to keep the miracle away from me.

Jesus talks to you here about the duplicity of the mind:

“Father, I want what goes against my will, and do not want what is my will to have.”  (1:1)

“Straighten my mind, my Father.  It is sick.”  (1:2-3)

Note:  It is sick to want what goes against the true will you share with God, and sick to actively resist your own well-being. Self-destruction/sabotage/judgment -- all push away the miracle.

What is the remedy?  Jesus tells you in the Course that there are only two choices available to all who appear in this world:  The Holy Spirit, or the ego.  Only one is true. When you judge with the Holy Spirit, you will judge truly -- and peace, freedom, happiness and joy will surely follow.  When judging with the ego, all will be false -- and turmoil, guilt and anger will be the unwanted result.

Invite the straightening of your mind by giving all judgment to the Holy Spirit, asking Him to judge for you.  “He sees what you behold, and yet He knows the truth.” (1:6) He knows the pain is not real; the evidence means something entirely different to Him.  To you, the evidence of your eyes seems to prove separation, pain, loss and death are real.  When you bring all this to Him and ask Him to straighten your mind, He will show you that what you see does not mean what you thought it meant. He will then use what you thought had proven your guilt – to reveal your INNOCENCE.  The Holy Spirit is the mediator between the interpretations of the ego and the knowledge of the spirit. (T-5.III.7:1) Trust Him; He sees truly.

“He gives the miracles (expressions of love) my dreams would hide from my awareness.”  (1:8)

Therefore judgment can be a weapon you use to hurt yourself, or a tool to help yourself.  If you were to stop a moment when a decision is to be made (instead of rushing in where angels fear to tread), you would then be in a better position to decide with the Holy Spirit, and all will be blessed.  The resulting miracle (correction of false perception) will be yours, your brothers, and the world’s.

Lesson 348:  I have no cause for anger or for fear, for You surround me.  And in every need that I perceive, Your grace suffices me.

Begin this lesson by realizing you have no needs.  Yet you perceive that you do. Indeed, in this world needs appear to abound, such as the need for food and shelter, the need for companionship for some -- the need to be alone for others, the need for a useful occupation for some -- the need for meditation and rest for others, the need for “currency,” for good health, and a happy mind.  Yet all these needs will be amply met and more by the Holy Spirit, WHEN YOU FOLLOW HIM.  There is no need that will not be fulfilled on earth, and there are no needs at all in Heaven.  The Holy Spirit, then, is the choice you must make – in depth.  This means to harken to His Voice, and to do it all the time, in every situation, for everything under the sun.  Can you do that?  YES.  Will you?

Below is a beautiful prayer from the Course (1:1-8):

Father, let me remember You are here, and I am not alone.  Surrounding me is everlasting Love.  I have no cause for anything except the perfect peace and joy I share with You.  What need have I for anger or for fear?  Surrounding me is perfect safety and perfect sinlessness.  Can I be afraid, when You created me in holiness as perfect as Your Own?  Amen.

Lesson 349:  Today I let Christ’s vision look upon all things for me and judge them not, but give each one a miracle of love instead.

Now we are learning!  YES.  Let Christ’s vision look upon all things for you.  Do not judge anything that you appear to see with your eyes.  They will but deceive you.  But Christ will not.  Why would He?  He would only be deceiving Himself as you share the same mind with Him, the Christ Mind.

Do you want to be judged, to have your mistakes amplified, and to be offered only ridicule, evasion and invasion?  Then do not judge others, do not point out their mistakes, do not ridicule or turn away from your brother, do not attack him with your projections. Correct error through miracles of enlightenment, not with judgment. Express only understanding, appreciation, love and forgiveness to your brother, and all will be given you.  God gives you the grace to meet everyone with love.

Let His grace suffice.    Accept His Love only, and share it with your brothers. (T-5.III.3:4) He will tell you what to say and to whom.  Follow Him in His guidance and you will also be in His grace.

Lesson 350:  Miracles mirror God’s eternal Love.  To offer them is to remember Him, and through His memory to save the world.

The memory of God depends upon forgiveness.  If you are holding grievances, if you are judging your brother using the dictates of the ego, you will blind yourself to the truth of who your brother is and who you are and Who God is.  For they are one and the same.  God’s name is Love, and your name and your brother’s name is the same as His.  To love your Self is to love your brother is to love God.  See your brother through the Holy Spirit in his mind, and you will recognize Him in yours. This is the real Trinity:  Father, Son/Brother, Spirit in the state of Love forever. “Only the Levels of the Trinity are capable of Unity.”  (T-3.IV.1:7)

Remember:

A miracle is a correction.  It does not create, nor really change at all.  It merely looks on devastation, and reminds the mind that what it sees is false.  It undoes error, but does not attempt to go beyond perception, nor exceed the function of forgiveness.  (W-pII.13.1:1-4)

A miracle is a correction introduced into false thinking by (Jesus).  It acts as a catalyst, breaking up erroneous perception and reorganizing it properly.  This places you under the Atonement principle, where perception is healed.  Until this has occurred, knowledge of the Divine Order is impossible.  (T-1.I.Principle 36)

So to offer a miracle is to look beyond the illusions and to see the truth.  It is a refusal to share the littleness in which others see themselves.  Do not see your brother as a body, or as what his ego instructs him to say and do.  But do see him as the Father created him.  Do not judge his behavior, because he often behaves against his will. (See Lesson 347, paragraph 1, in this lesson.)  Instead offer your brother an opportunity to see himself as he really is by seeing him through the miracle that you offer him, through the love that you share with him.  You and all your brothers are more loveable and more loving than you or they think. You do not yet see yourselves as valuable. See only the love in them, and it will simultaneously help you to see only the love and value in yourself.

God is but love, and therefore so are you.  Gather miracles gratefully from Him.  Miracles mirror God’s eternal Love.  To offer them (instead of judgment) is to remember Him, and thus His Son will be restored to you in the reality of Love.

Son of God, will you watch with me today – for opportunities to offer miracles?
