Principle 46: The Holy Spirit is the highest communication medium. Miracles do not involve this type of communication, because they are temporary communication devices. When you return to your original form of communication with God by direct revelation, the need for miracles is over. (T-1.I.46:1-3)

The miracle is much like the body in that both are learning aids for facilitating a state in which they become unnecessary. When spirit’s original state of direct communication is reached, neither the body nor the miracle serves any purpose. While you believe you are in a body, however, you can choose between loveless and miraculous channels of expression. You can make an empty shell, but you cannot express nothing at all. You can wait, delay, paralyze yourself, or reduce your creativity almost to nothing. But you cannot abolish it. You can destroy your medium of communication, but not your potential. You did not create yourself. (T-1.V.1:1-8)

Whatever is true is eternal, and cannot change or be changed. Spirit is therefore unalterable because it is already perfect, but the mind can elect what it chooses to serve. The only limit put on its choice is that it cannot serve two masters. If it elects to do so, the mind can become the medium by which spirit creates along the line of its own creation. If it does not freely elect to do so, it retains its creative potential but places itself under tyrannous rather than Authoritative control. As a result it imprisons, because such are the dictates of tyrants. To change your mind means to place it at the disposal of true Authority. (T-2.V.5:1-7)

The miracle is a sign that the mind has chosen to be led by Jesus in Christ’s service. The abundance of Christ is the natural result of choosing to follow Him. All shallow roots must be uprooted, because they are not deep enough to sustain you. The illusion that shallow roots can be deepened, and thus made to hold, is a distortion. As these false underpinnings are given up, the equilibrium is temporarily experienced as unstable. However, nothing is less stable than an upside-down orientation. Nor can anything that holds it upside down be conducive to increased stability. (T-1.V.6:1-7)

The removal of blocks, then, is the only way to guarantee help and healing. Help and healing are the normal expressions of a mind that is working through the body, but not in it. If the mind believes the body is its goal it will distort its perception of the body, and by blocking its own extension beyond it, will induce illness by fostering separation. Perceiving the body as a separate entity cannot but foster illness, because it is not true. A medium of communication loses its usefulness if it is used for anything else. To use a medium of communication to attack is an obvious confusion in purpose. (T-8.VII.11:1-6) Therefore, the mind is not to be used to separate, as that use is a form of attack and can have only unwanted results.

So, to communicate is to join and to attack is to separate. How can you do both simultaneously with the same thing (the mind) and not suffer? We have learned that you cannot serve two masters! Perception of the body can be unified only by having but one purpose, that of the Holy Spirit (communication to join). (T-8.VII.12:1-2) You communicate (join) with love; you attack (separate) with fear. You who want peace can find it only by complete forgiveness. (T-1.VI.1:1)

Prayer is a way of asking for something. It is the medium of miracles. But the only meaningful prayer is for forgiveness, because those who have been forgiven have everything. Once forgiveness has been accepted, prayer in the usual sense becomes utterly meaningless. (T-3.V.6:1-4)

The prayer for forgiveness is a request to recognize what you already have. You have lost the knowledge that you are a miracle of God. Creation is your Source and your function. (T-3.V.6:5,7-8)

Perception is impossible without a belief in “more” and “less.” At every level it involves selectivity. Yet what happens to perceptions if there are no judgments and nothing but perfect equality? Then perception becomes impossible. Truth can only be known, not perceived or judged. All of it is equally true, and to know any part of truth is to know all of it. Only perception involves partial awareness. Knowledge transcends the laws governing perception, because partial knowledge is impossible. It is all one and has no separate parts. You who are really one with truth and knowledge need but know yourself and your knowledge is complete. To know God’s miracle (yourself) is to know Him. (T-3.V.8:1-9)

Forgiveness is the healing of the perception of separation. Correct perception of your brother is necessary, because minds have chosen to see themselves as separate. Spirit knows God completely; that is its miraculous power. The fact that each one has this power completely is a condition alien to the world’s thinking. The world believes if anyone has everything, there is nothing left. But God’s miracles are as total as His Thoughts because they are His Thoughts. (T-3.V.9:1-7)

As long as perception lasts prayer has a place. Perception rests on lack and on a separated state, so that anyone who perceives at all needs healing. God and His miracles are inseparable. How beautiful indeed are the Thoughts of God who live in His Light! Do not perceive yourself in different lights. Know yourself in the One Light where the miracle that is you is perfectly clear. (T-3.V.10:1-9)

A miracle, to obtain its full efficacy, must be expressed in a language that the recipient can understand without fear. This does not necessarily mean that this is the highest level of communication of which he is capable, just the highest level of communication of which he is capable now. The whole aim of the miracle is to raise the level of communication, not to lower it by increasing fear. (T-2.IV.5:1-6)

Should the body be anything to you? Certainly what it is made of is not precious. It has no feeling; it merely transmits the feelings to you that you want. The sender and receiver are the same. The Holy Spirit tells you this with joy but the ego hides it, for who would send messages of hatred and attack, accusation, guilt and condemnation -- if he understood he sends them to himself? (T-19.IV.B.i.14:1-12)

The Holy Spirit offers the Father’s messages to the Son. The ego offers only death. (T-19.IV.B.i.17:3-6) When you accepted the Holy Spirit’s purpose in place of the ego’s you renounced death, exchanging it for life. Death is the result of the thought called the ego, as surely as life is the result of the Thought of God. (T-19.IV.C.1:1,2:13-15)

Brother, you came this far because the journey was your choice. And no one undertakes to do what he believes is meaningless. What you had faith in still is faithful, and watches over you in faith so gentle yet so strong that it would lift you far beyond the veil, and place the Son of God safely within the sure protection of his Father. Here is the only purpose that gives this world, and the long journey through this world, whatever meaning lies in them. Beyond this, they are meaningless. Yet you and your brother stand together, still without conviction they have a purpose. Yet it is given you to see this purpose in your holy Friend, and recognize it as your own. (T-19.IV.D.i.21:1-7)
